Plotter drawings · pigment and acrylic inks on acid-free paper · Ongoing

Generative and computational works developed in code and drawn by a computer-controlled pen plotter.

Procedural algorithms, parametric equations, digital elevation maps and other data sets are translated into physical drawings.

The Samuel Beckett image is based on John Haynes’s 1973 platinum print, Samuel Beckett (452 × 410 mm, image size), presented to the National Portrait Gallery by the photographer in 2018. The plotting algorithm reconstructs the portrait as a maze-like field, using shifts between densely and sparsely drawn passages to produce darker and lighter tonal areas. Its winding structure echoes the recursive, circuitous movement of Beckett’s writing. My work is drawn by a computer-controlled pen plotter in white acrylic ink on black acid-free paper.
