Guernica [cover-up], 2003

Digital image and print · 2m × 1m · 2003

Guernica [cover-up] was made after a tapestry reproduction of Picasso’s anti-war painting was concealed behind a blue curtain and a row of flags at the UN Security Council while Colin Powell presented the United States case for war on 5 February 2003.

The intervention converted the act of concealment into the image itself. A large-scale print was exhibited in Screenshot(s) at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery in 2006 alongside a projected version of Wartime. Private collection.
